FAQ
LETS TALK LASHES
What type of lashes do you do and how are they different to other types?
I do Classic, Russian Premades and Express lash extensions. Classic lash extensions is where one lash is applied to every single one of your own lashes. This type can be infilled.
Russian Lashes are where a group of lighter individual lashes are put together to form a fan then applied individually. This creates a much bigger more glam/volume look.
Express semi permanent lashes are a lot quicker to apply as the technician does not isolate the individual lashes in order to place an extension, the extension is laid on top of the clients lashes, therefore bonding across a couple of lashes. You do not have top ups/infills with these types of extensions.
Russian lashes are ultra-fine synthetic lashes that are made from the same soft fibre as classic lashes. Because they're much thinner, the therapist is able to apply more lashes to each natural lash – anythingbetween 2-8. Russian lash extensions are applied in a fan-like shape, which gives more volume too
How are they applied?
I will place a lash pad over your bottom lashes and your eyes will be closed through out. Using a set of eye lash tweezers I will isolate one of your lashes at a time and place an extension onto the lash. None of the lashes will be stuck onto your skin, only an individual lash.
Are they damaging?
Eye lash extensions are not damaging if applied correctly and properly, they are safe and do not ruin the health of your natural lashes. I will choose an appropriate length, curl and thickness to apply to make sure your natural lashes are suitable. The upper lid typically has about 90 to 150 lashes on it and these lashes naturally fall out just like the hairs on your head with or without lash extensions. When one lash is applied to each one of your lash extensions we wait for it to fall out and re grow again ready for your infill. It is compleltly normal for your eye lashes to fall out, this is how eye lash extentions work. Be sure not to rub your eyes forcefully or tug or pull on the extensions because this can cause lashloss and even damage to your natural lashes.
Does it hurt?
Eyelash extensions should not hurt; you shouldn’t be able to feel anything as the extension isn't coming into contact with your skin only your lashes.
Can you choose how they will look?
Lashes come with a range of thickness, curls and lengths. You can choose what sort of look you are going for but if the lash isn't suitable I won't apply it. Eg if the lash is too heavy for your lashes I wont apply it.
How long do they take to apply?
Classics and Russians take around 90minutes where as express take about 45minutes.
How do I look after my eye lash extensions?
*No water should come into contact with your eyelashes for 24 hours.
* For 48 hours after treatment do not steam your face, use a steam bath, swim or wash your face with hot water. Avoid saunas and steam rooms
* If you wear mascara on your bottom lashes make sure it is water based.
* If you wear eyeliner, the best ones to use are the felt tip pens or gel, avoid pencil eyeliners as they tend to be a bit oily and can clog between the lashes.
* Do not use an eyelash curler or perm the lashes. It will break the eye lashes and/or crease them.
* Do not rub lashes when washing your face – always pat dry after cleansing.
* Do not pull on your eyelashes. The bond on the extensions is so strong that it will pull your own eyelash out along with the new ones.
* To remove make-up use an OIL FREE make-up remover avoiding touching the eyelashes.
Do I need to do anything before my appointment?
Make sure your eye area is squeaky clean and free of any make up and oils as these can interfere with the bonding. Its also a good idea to remove contact lenses
How long do they last?
Classic and Russian lash extensions will naturally fall out with your own lashes. You can either have infills at 2 or 3 weeks. Some of your lashes will last and last it all just depends on which stage they are at in your natural cycle. The more you take care of them the longer they will last.
How do I remove them?
You can either let them fall out naturally or you can pop in and I will remove them for you. I put a solution on your lashes and it gently dissolves the glue bonded.
Can I wear mascara?
If you feel like you need to wear mascara oil-free mascara and makeup is the only safe choice when you wear lash extensions. Its best if you only apply it to your bottom lashes as it can clump your extensions together. Just remember to use an oil free cleanser to remove.
What is my lash cycle?
The upper lid typically has about 90 to 150 lashes on it, while the bottom has between 70 and 80 lashes. You naturally loose between 1-4 lashes a day, which means between 7-28 are lost a week, its just a lot more noticeable when you've got an extension attached and they are enhanced. Your lashes are on a cycle just like the hair on your head which is why you dont loose all of your lashes at one time. They go through stages;
The Anagen Growth Phase - which is the stage when the eyelash is actively growing.
The Catagen Growth Cycle - is the stage also called the lag phase because during this time the growth of the eyelash stops.
The Telogen Growth Stage - is the final stage where the eyelash falls out. You have eyelashes in every stage of growth at all times. This staggering of the phases is why you don’t lose all your eyelashes at any one time.
My eyelashes are short and sparse is this okay?
Lash extensions enhance your own natural lashes so it does make them a lot more noticeable and they do stand out more. If your lashes are sparse having extensions may emphasize that or it may enhance them and make them look fuller. Generally most people are ideal candidates for eye lash extensions, when you come for an appointment we will discuss the appropriate lash length, thickness and curl for your lashes. If you are concerned book in for a free consultation.
When my eyelash extensions came out, my natural lashes came with them, should this happen?
Some people worry when they see an eyelash extension come out with one of their eyelashes attached to it. Eyelash extensions are designed to stay on your lashes until your natural lash falls out, so when you see an extension come out with one of your lashes on it, don’t worry that’s exactly what’s supposed to happen, unless of course if you catch the extension and pull it off prematurely.
Do eyelash extensions make your natural lashes fall out?
Eye lash extensions don’t make your lashes fall out. You lashes go through a lift cycle on average of between 60 – 90 days and they all grow individually at different stages losing on average 1 – 4 lashes per day. You’re more aware of the lashes coming out when you have the extensions purely because your lashes are more noticeable
Why do my natural eyelashes look shorter than before when I stopped having eyelash extensions?
You’ve been used to having beautiful eyelash extensions, so when don’t have them, it’s always going to make your natural lashes appear much shorter than before. Your so used to having long thick lashes that its quite a shock for you and you often forget how they were before.
Can I get them wet?
Yes to an extent, they won’t all fall off if you get them wet but you need to be careful when drying them, pat dry rather than rubbing.
